Dear Boot Camper,
When I first started coaching my intention was to help my clients pursue their greater life goals. But after working with many clients, I started to notice a pattern. All my clients knew how to be successful already. These high performers were close to living the life they wanted. They didn’t need to hire me to help them discover their life’s destiny. So I asked myself what was stopping them from reaching their achievements. I eventually recognized it was the daily tasks and over–committed, often unrealized schedule that tripped them up.
For most of my clients, something happened and, as a result, they became scattered, stressed, and spread too thin. For some it was a big promotion or the expansion of their business. For others it was increased opportunities or having children. With more responsibilities and possibilities, these clients were overwhelmed, overextended and overworked. They were re-acting to their environment rather than creating their world. They would continue to over-commit, stay late, and promise more than they could deliver. These clients continually attempted to do it all, yet time and time again they fell short.
So how do we effectively change our modus operandi? It’s really difficult, if not impossible, to shift our patterns and step out of old habits all by ourselves. We’ve got to have a reflecting mirror, a sounding board, an objective guide. That’s where coaching comes in. It’s a process of shining light on your patterns and providing clarity in the fog. I help you whittle away what isn’t working. Like Michelangelo chiseling away bits of stone to reveal the statue already inherent in the block of marble, I will assist you in getting to your power core.
After many years of coaching, I’ve found it takes three weeks to break an old habit and another three weeks to start to instill a new one. In my process, I first help clients become aware of their patterns and then we select short-term methods and weekly challenges to change things up. Finally we consider the long-term ramifications, the big picture, if things don’t change. All told, the client gets pushed out of seemingly secure, but stale comfort zones and invigorated with new, systematic modes of action that bring major pay–offs.
Whether it’s career, finances, time management, fitness or relationships – you minimize unproductive habits and maximize strengths. You become conscious of your patterns of thought and behavior, making it easier to chart your desired course. Then you can have great fun inviting the world in on your own terms, not just reacting to it.
I want you to have a Driving Personal Vision. A life where you write your own rules. Where you get to follow your primary passions. Where you know what you want and what you don’t want. Where you have crystal clear clarity and focus. Each day is lived intentionally and purposefully. To have time and energy for the most important people in your life. Where increased relaxation, health and fitness, and well-being are not just hollow New Year’s Resolutions made and forgotten.
